Aerial Devices And Elevating Work Platforms
Aerial devices provide us with a safe and practical means of performing tasks at elevated locations that otherwise could only be accomplished with great difficulty or posssibly not at all. They are however, only safe when used as intended and operated by trained operators. Aerial Devices introduce a danger not present in other types of equipment, and that is the danger of a catastrophic fall resulting in serious or fatal injury. An overwhelming percentage of Aerial Device injuries and fatalities are caused by operator error.
The use of Aerial Devices and Elevating Work Platforms in California is regulated by the Cal/OSHA General Industry Safety Orders, Article 24. If you are an employer utilizing this type of equipment, you are required to provide those employees that operate this equipment with training in the proper use of the equipment. You must also "authorize" those employees to operate the equipment and limit the use of this equipment to those "authorized" employees.
